Why APPI: MR Inspection Services, based in Aberdeen, UK, provides riser inspections for North Sea oil producers – either on board a vessel or on the quay. They accomplish this by using non-invasive automated inspection techniques that are performed inside the riser tubes.

To pull their equipment through the risers, MRIS needed a light weight and dependable pneumatic winch. Their choice was our Columbia Model WD1450 equipped with 110 feet of 3/16” wire rope that was mounted on an aluminum base plate. By engaging the manual freespool, the wire rope can easily be pulled off the drum and through the risers. It is then attached to the inspection equipment and then pulled back through the pipe at a speed appropriate to the type of testing being conducted.

This planetary reduction hoist weighs approximately 40 pounds which makes moving it from one inspection site to another an easy task.
