Why APPI: Located on the upper Monongahela River, Vance River Terminal has been loading barges with coal, sand, gravel, limestone and soil since 1940.  The operation is straight forward with the material being placed into endless strings of barges with a gravity feed system.  The critical key to keeping things moving smoothly are the chute hoists that are constantly adjusted to keep the barges floating on the level.

For more than a decade VRT has standardized on our Columbia AC electric hoists for their chute positioning requirements.  The combination of compact size, high efficiency and minimal maintenance combined with virtually 100% availability regardless of weather conditions has given them a high approval rating by both management and operators.
