The application demanded a hoist capable of lifting 100 pounds to a height of 80 feet “as quickly as possible” while operating safely in a hazardous environment. After careful consideration and consultation with Allied Power Products, Inc. (APPI), Jeffrey selected the Columbia HF550-P-02 pneumatic equipment hoist.

APPI’s Columbia HF550-P-02 pneumatic hoist offers a line pull of 550 pounds on the first layer and an impressive line speed of 127 feet per minute, exceeding HMT’s requirements for quick vertical transportation of tools and equipment. The hoist’s 100-foot capacity of 3/16″ diameter stainless steel wire rope, complete with an overhaul plate and latching hook, ensures secure and efficient lifting operations.

Key to the selection of the Columbia HF550-P-02 was its suitability for hazardous locations. The pneumatic power source, requiring 65 PSI @ 110 CFM, eliminates the need for electrical components, making it inherently safer for use in potentially explosive environments. Additionally, the hoist is equipped with a pressure-released, spring-set brake, enabling safe and controlled lifting and lowering of rated loads.

Why APPI: Kellogg Brown & Root since 2012 has been operating in Djibouti under the largest military contract in Africa for base operations, maintenance services, life support and logistics for Naval facilities engineering command Atlantic.  Djibouti is a remote hostile environment with little manufacturing or natural resources and most parts and equipment must be imported.

The Navy’s eight existing aircraft revetments were provided with an overhead door hoist system that could not adequately provide a safe environment for both personnel and high value aircraft.
