Customer: ZPMC USA
Location: Elizabeth, NJ
Hoist Model: Columbia 20AAM Davit with Columbia HF4700-4A17-L-00 AC electric hoist
Performance:

Custom Drum

Multiple bases

Quick-disconnect pendant with E-Stop

Why APPI:

Graeme Cooper, the Service Manager at ZPMC USA, had previously worked with Allied Power Products, Inc. (APPI) and turned to them when faced with a new challenge. ZPMC USA needed a solution to lift loads up to 2,000 lbs over a distance of 200 feet from ships to shore.

To meet these requirements, APPI provided a Columbia 20AAM Davit paired with a Columbia HF4700-4A17-L-00 AC electric hoist. The davit crane and hoist combination offered a reliable and efficient system for ship-to-shore lifting operations.

Mobility was a key concern for ZPMC USA, as they needed to move the davit crane between different locations. APPI addressed this by supplying multiple bases for the davits, allowing the unit to be easily relocated as needed. This flexibility enhanced the system’s versatility and adaptability to various lifting scenarios.

The custom drum on the HF4700 hoist ensured that the 250 feet of ¼” diameter wire rope could be safely and efficiently managed. The quick-disconnect pendant with an E-Stop feature provided operators with convenient and secure control over the lifting process.

By implementing APPI’s ship-to-shore davit crane solution, ZPMC USA not only achieved their lifting goals but also saved valuable time in their operations. The Columbia 20AAM Davit and HF4700 hoist showcased APPI’s ability to deliver customized, high-performance lifting solutions tailored to the unique needs of the shipping industry.

NEMA 4X hand-held pendant control with 50’ lead and strain relief cord grip hanging at the control enclosure

Why APPI:

Natural Stone Interiors, a remodeling business specializing in natural stone surfaces, contacted Allied Power Products when contracted to install granite walls in a new office building. Facing heights up to 30′ and weights up to 1400 lbs. per stone piece, owner Ed Swanson planned a gantry-style lifting system.

APPI recommended models like the Hammerhead Trolley and HD/HC hoists. Swanson ultimately chose the HC2000-1A25-L-01 with a manual overhead trolley for its simple rigging and lightweight integrated design.

The system provides flexibility and control for precise stone installation with a 50′ pendant lead, upper limit switch, and specially mounted NEMA 4X enclosures. To meet quick deadlines, APPI expedited parts and production to deliver the custom, reliable solution on time.

Application: Columbia stack hoist and trolley brings testing equipment in and out of service
Customer: URS Energy and Construction
Location: Oak Creek, WI
Hoist Model: Columbia H3000-4A17-L-00 AC Electric Hoist with Manual Overhead Trolley
Performance Based On 460 VAC / Three Phase / 60 Hz:
Line Pull: 4,189 pounds on the first layer
Line Speed: 36 feet per minute on the first layer
Wire rope capacity: 355 feet x 3/8″ diameter stainless steel non-rotational wire rope with latching hook
Special features: 18″ wide drum core, yellow epoxy overcoat, 5.0 HP in-line gear box brake motor, trolley mounted control box

Why APPI: Operating and maintaining emissions testing equipment in a smoke stack presents real challenges – especially when the stack is more than 300 feet tall. Installed at the Oak Creek Power Plant in 2013 by URS Energy and Construction, this hoist was selected due to the extreme lifting distance and the environment where it would be put to work. Mounted on a manual trolley on a jib crane located at the top of the smoke stack, it utilizes an 18″ long drum core that increased wire rope capacity to make it possible to reach the equipment more than 300 feet below it.

Currently on a maintenance contract, Kone Cranes Account Manager Eric LeGant took some pictures of the hoist on his most recent visit. After more than 7 years in service in this caustic environment, the hoist and trolley have performed flawlessly.

Please contact us if you would like more information about this Columbia smoke stack hoist or any of our other products and services.
