Why APPI:
When Supreme Integrated Technology, Inc. was contracted to build a barge-mounted work platform, the project called for a reliable way to deploy a folding section of the unit using a jib-mounted hoist. Mechanical engineer Carson Vaccarella brought the challenge to Allied Power Products, Inc. (APPI), and together the two teams worked through the platform’s lifting requirements to find the right fit.
Based on the specific demands of the application, APPI and Supreme Integrated Technology determined that a retractable work platform hoist built around the Columbia HD1300-1A34-F-11 AC electric hoist would best meet the project’s needs.
The hoist’s role in the platform’s deployment sequence is central to how the system works:
- Jib arm deployment – The operator swings out a jib arm with the hoist mounted on it.
- Load engagement – The load line hooks to the folding section of the platform, lifting it from its stowed position.
- Boom rotation – The boom swings past the center of the platform’s hinge point.
- Platform extension – The folding section lowers into place, expanding the platform’s working area.
- Stowing – To retract the platform, the process reverses, and the jib and hoist are secured until needed again.
Mounting the Columbia AC electric hoist directly on the jib helps simplify this multi-axis lift, tip, and lower sequence, giving the platform a straightforward deployment and stowing process.
This collaborative approach offers Supreme Integrated Technology several benefits:
- Simplified deployment of a multi-axis folding platform section
- Compact, jib-mounted design that integrates cleanly with the barge-mounted unit
- Reliable, repeatable operation for both extending and stowing the platform
By working with APPI to specify the right retractable work platform hoist, Supreme Integrated Technology, Inc. arrived at a solution tailored to the specific mechanics of their barge-mounted platform.
