Why APPI: Shore docking systems are typically less complicated and expensive than vertical boat hoists as they pull at an angle up a small railway as opposed to lifting the total weight of the watercraft they are docking. Hand winches are common on these units but when the boats get bigger the cranking gets harder and potentially more dangerous as the operator must be in contact with the winch.
For a Roll-n-Go unit with capacity to dock a 4,500 pound vessel on a 30% slope the choice was one of our Columbia HD1300 hoists. With an automatic, load-suspending braking system and permanently lubricated, high-efficiency planetary reduction, this hoist maintains control from the time of hook-up until the boat is once again afloat. For the operator, a NEMA 12 rated, handheld pennant allows them to stand clear during the docking process.
