Why APPI: The Thunder PreScreen system is designed to separate drilling and construction liquids and solids dumped into it from a vacuum trailer or truck. The hopper hoist that lifts the 1,200-gallon capacity receiving tank to feed the prescreen process is an obviously critical part of their system. When their original design, which used a DC recovery winch, proved inadequate, we worked closely with Thunder Products to ensure all of the factors and variables of the application were considered prior to selecting one of our Columbia HL12000 AC hoists for the task.
Its “cast and machined” construction is designed for rugged worksites and the completely sealed, oil bathed, planetary gear train helps ensure minimum maintenance and a maximum service life. A spring applied, electrically released brake holds the tank in position as it is cycled up and down. A wire rope tension plate was installed on the hoist to help keep the line spooled on the drum and a vertical lead sheave provides both alignment for the line and an anchor point for two-parting it. This arrangement greatly simplified and improved the performance of their previous fall-block arrangement.
Mike Bliss, the Factory Manager for Thunder Products, says that the hoisting system has exceeded their expectations in all ways.
