Self-Contained Winch System for Construction Barge Spuds

Special Features: Self-contained skid assembly includes two winches, joystick controls, Perkins turbo-charged diesel engine, Kawasaki pressure compensating pump, hydraulic and fuel tanks, key start, and digital display of system elements such as rpm, fuel consumption, oil pressure, etc.
Why APPI: APPI devised this self-contained winch system in response to a specific set of customer requirements, including containment of all hydraulic, oil, and diesel fluids and minimizing water contamination of those fluids from rain, snow, or sleet. The winch system features two winches with rapid reverse (4X inhaul speeds) to quickly set and recover the spuds.
Winches include high-efficiency planetary reductions and rapid reverse for quick changeovers, while the winch speed can be metered in both directions for precise control. All components run in an oil bath with no need for adjustment or external lubrication.
This system is used on the Columbia River, and its estuaries are regulated and managed for endangered or threatened species. The skid includes a unique fluid containment design that captures 125% of the total system fluids while minimizing the opportunity for additional liquids, i.e., rainwater, to mix and hamper recovery.
A 220-gallon hydraulic tank maximizes heat displacement and minimizes servicing, while the 50-gallon diesel fuel tank allows for long run times.
