Why APPI: Positioning a steel roll-off container along a guide rail system is a common application for one of our Columbia WG11000 AC electric winches. When the container is collecting Milorganite chaff dust in a Class II Div 1 Group G rated caustic environment it takes a properly rated winch to work in this kind of atmosphere. When J.F. Ahern was contracted to upgrade the D & D (Dewater & Dry) chaff loadout winch system at the Jones Island Water Reclamation Facility in Milwaukee, WI, they turned to us for a ‘project-specified’ Columbia loadout winch that could meet the application requirements.
Due to the caustic nature of the chaff dust, an epoxy overcoat was applied and the winch was equipped with stainless steel fasteners and 60 feet of 3/8″ diameter, 304 grade stainless steel wire rope with a stainless steel latching hook. To prevent catastrophic failure of the winch in the event of a stall condition, the Class II Div 1 Group G rated, UL-listed, single-speed control system includes an adjustable AC current sensing relay as well as an emergency stop switch and overload light.
Working closely with Project Manager Addison “Red” Knopps, we were able to provide one of our winches with specifications that were a perfect match to the requirements laid out by the City of Fond du Lac Wastewater Treatment Department.
