Why APPI
Tacoma Power and Light needed a solution for lifting fish screens at the Cowlitz Falls Dam. The extensive new construction for fish passage made configuring the hoist system challenging. APPI provided a system that utilized our hammerhead trolley design to help minimize the size of the hoists required for the application.
The custom-designed system allows an operator to lift and position the fish screens individually or in tandem. The motorized hammerhead trolleys are rated at 6 tons each, and the reeving through them doubles the line pull of each hoist. Variable frequency drives allow for precise speed and torque control, while auxiliary radio controls enable remote operation for all functions.
This solution effectively addresses the unique requirements of fish screen management at the Cowlitz Falls Dam, providing Tacoma Power and Light with efficient and flexible lifting capabilities in a challenging environment.
