Why APPI:  When a hoist design proposed to lift 15,000-pound pumps for maintenance and repair was rejected by their local PUD engineers, Billy Ball, the Sales Manager for Lafollette Mining Supply, conducted a thorough search for a supplier who could provide them with a reliable solution.  As he told us, he was impressed with our customer reviews and the extremely wide range of applications for which we have provided solutions.

Overall the application was straight forward: Provide a barge mounted hoist system that can lift pumps weighing up to 15,000 lbs. from up to 125 feet of water.  Yes, the system had to be suitable for a marine atmosphere and yes, the existing crane frame had limited headroom and yes, the pumps needed to be moved fore and aft during their removal/replacement cycle.

The solution we provided consists of a pair of our Columbia HL12000 Hoists working with a pair of our motorized 15-ton hammerhead trolleys.  With this system, we were able to provide a maximum of 30,000 pounds of line pull to pull pumps free and then when clear of the barge deck allow the trolley to travel while the pump remains at the same distance above the deck.

High efficiency planetary reductions in the cast, machined and sealed hoists along with 5 HP TEFC UL-listed brake motors help make the system compact and dependable.  Billy was pleased to get quick approval of our proposal by the PUD engineers and says everyone is impressed with how well the system is working for them.
